Abstract

The Spanish scholar Benito Arias Montano, librarian of El Escorial, was an outstanding translator of, and commentator on, biblical texts. He was one of the general editors of the Polyglot Bible published at Antwerp in 1573. He was also the author of a large body of Latin poems of religious subject matter.
